I still can't believe it. The Bush regime is officially over. And Barack Obama is our new president.
Barack Obama is the leader of our country- the one that we chose- because we believed in him- and all he would do for us- and all he would do to change the current corrupt government systems.
So, I love all kinds of art. Graffiti and street art, surreal, modern, pop, and the classic fine arts. Love a little bit of everything.
Right now I'm really in to Julie Verhoeven. I'm actually a little bit in love...
Some Julie Verhoeven education:
Her avant-garde art/fashion fused illustrations have graced magazines like The Face, Dazed and Confused and Vogue Italy. She has illustrated album covers for Primal Scream and Kate Moss's album, "Some Velvet Morning". And created cartoons for a Fischerspoon performance. And even published a couple books, Fat-Bottomed Girls and Gas Book, which I will be googling to try to find copies of. (And that Missoni-like multi-color swirly line painting on the wall behind her in the above is incredible.)
With a mother who was an illustrator and father who was a graphic artist- she grew up saturated in the arts. But after college she began working in the fashion industry as John Galliano's first assistant (ummm... how did you land that job?) Then she went on to work as a design consultant for Martin Sitbon, and was head designer for her own collection, Gibo. Her big break though, was when her whimsical illustrations donned Louis Vuitton handbags in 2003. This success has lead to further collaborations with Mulberry, Lancome, and Topshop- just to name a few.
I fell in love with her sketch-y looking whymsical women with random strokes and blotches of color. I love the non-chalant quietly confident attitude of the women, and how the flashes of color on the usually white background can tell the story of where she is and what she's feeling and thinking... Love love love love love...
